One of the toughest climbs in the Priorat region. It's nothing like the other side. The climb starts before Escaladei, specifically in the village of Viliella Baixa. From there to the top it's approximately 11 kilometers. From Escaladei, it's 4 kilometers, 3 of which are very tough, with gradients exceeding 10%, although interspersed with flatter sections. It's a MUST in this area.

It is a very affordable climb dotted with some 8% ramps. From the moment you leave the town of Cornudella, it is a panoramic climb where you can observe the beauty of this area, both the mountains and the valleys dotted with vines. After passing the first section, which is the hardest, the climb is a succession of slides, where you can enjoy the landscape. La Vilella Baixa is a beautiful stone town that hangs on the side of a ravine. From the road it looks like a model, but if you decide to enter you can enjoy its bars and alleys.

At the end of the 19th century, all of Catalonia suffered an economic downturn that coincided with an attack by the phylloxera insect, which killed the vineyards. This led to the depopulation of many towns. However, in this area, the decline was not as severe as in others thanks to the railway line, which played a fundamental role in the wine trade, as it quickly connected the consuming and producing areas, ensuring that the wine arrived at its destination in better condition.

The Carthusian monastery dates back to the 12th century, when the monks of Provence chose to build, in this unique setting, at the foot of the Sierra del Montsant, the first Carthusian monastery on the Iberian Peninsula. During the 19th century, the monks fled the territory, leaving the land and buildings abandoned. Due to the constant looting, the space occupied by the charterhouse was deteriorated and, today, the remains of the cloisters, the church, as well as the refectory can be visited.
