It stands on a hill in the oldest part of the town, giving it a fortress-like appearance.

The Hermitage of Our Lady of the Monastery is located in Rabé de las Calzadas, it was built in the 16th century in Renaissance style. The hermitage gets its name because it houses an image of the Virgin, which was found in the same place where the hermitage was built.
