The Church of Santiago dates back to the 12th century, the Puerta del Perdón (Door of Forgiveness), and is located next to the Cathedral of Santiago. The Church of St. James was one of the churches where pilgrims who were ill and could no longer continue could have the Compostela issued. They then did not have to complete the journey to Santiago de Compostela but could finish their journey here as usual. During excavations around the church, many pilgrim graves were found, so it can be assumed that many pilgrims did not make it back home.

This convent has great importance in the history of Villafranca del Bierzo, and its architecture, with the two-arched bell tower, is quite representative. The place has a long religious tradition and is associated with the Camino de Santiago, as Villafranca del Bierzo is an important stop on the pilgrimage route.

Beautiful, in the middle of Villafranca, next to the Collegiate Church and full of flowers almost all year round. It also imitates a labyrinth, although of reduced height, that is, with visibility. It is a pleasure to walk through the garden admiring the monuments that surround it and the mountains in the background.
