The Church of Santa Maria de Iria Flavia is an important pilgrimage site and is considered one of the oldest churches in Galicia. It is also one of the main points of interest in the town of Padrón.

The Church and Cemetery of Adina are located in Iria Flavia, Padrón. The cemetery has archaeological remains from the Roman and Suebian era, such as anthropomorphic sarcophagi from the 6th century ¹. The church, also known as Santa María la Mayor de Iria Flavia, is an old collegiate church that houses the cemetery where the grave of Camilo José Cela is located, under one of the four centuries-old olive trees ² ³. There is also a tombstone in honor of Rosalía de Castro, who was buried there from 1885 to 1891 ⁴ ².

The church was locked 🔐. What a pity.

Church, the construction of which began in the 16th century directly at the so-called "Fonte Santa" or "holy spring". Its most important elements are the central staircase above the spring and the two large towers (19th century, on either side of the nave). According to legend, in 1582 the priest of Cruces had a stone sculpture of the Virgin Mary and Child made in gratitude for not being killed by a falling tree. The sculpture was placed right next to a nearby spring. In 1732, many years later, a sick man from O Salnés, on his way to Santiago to be treated for his illness, drank from the spring and asked Our Lady for help. Three days later he was healed. The event attracted many devout people in search of healing and generated plenty of donations. The church was built with all the proceeds from the donations. Inside the church, altarpieces, one of which is painted gold, pictures and wall paintings depict the events that led to the construction of the church.
