The most famous attraction in Granada is the Alhambra. The most important buildings from the Moorish period belong to the Alhambra fortress. It is a collection of palaces and the largest secular complex of its kind in Spain. It was built on older grounds in the 13th and 14th centuries as the residence of the Moorish kings of the Nasrid dynasty. The Alhambra is famous for its stucco ceilings and the humming of a lion. King Charles V had a palace built in this area, which destroyed large areas of the original palace.
