Upon arriving in the historic town of Monroy you cannot avoid seeing the imposing medieval castle. The castle walls dominate the surrounding plains.

The convent of San Antonio de Padua is located on the outskirts of Garrovillas de Alconétar. It is a Franciscan convent from the 15th century, today in ruins.

Ruins of a 15th century convent on the outskirts of Garrovillas de Alconétar. I find beauty in these ghostly time capsule buildings. The convent of San Antonio de Padua was founded in 1476 but was left in ruins after being looted by the residents of the town in 1843.

The current building dates from the 19th century, but the existence of a hermitage here is known in documents from the 17th century.

The Garrovillas reservoir has been enabled to provide drinking water to the residents of Garrovillas. It is an interesting destination for a walk or a walk.
