This small town of about 570 inhabitants has existed since the 19th century. The narrow streets are full of small whitewashed houses. The town sits on a hill and offers views of the valley and surrounding fields.

Early settlements are discussed here, but may be as old as the Neolithic period. In the 60s, many of its inhabitants moved, considerably reducing the population, but now the town tries to take advantage of its proximity to the Alqueva reservoir to attract tourists.

In a spectacular setting, we come across this Franciscan convent, almost 400 years old (15th century). It is in a state of ruin. Next to it, we can see the aqueduct (18th century), which served to supply water to the building. A place to visit, preferably in spring or autumn.

Hidden between roads and extensive Extremaduran meadows, we find the beautiful Bogaña bridge that allows us to cross the Alcarrache river.

Alconchel Castle or also called Miraflores, is a destination that is worth adding to our route, getting to know the interior and enjoying the views it offers us. (2€ entry)
