The town is known as one of the gateways to Monfragüe National Park. From here you can visit: El Salto del Gitano (The Gypsy's Leap), one of the park's most impressive viewpoints. Monfragüe Castle, with majestic views of the Tagus River and the Mediterranean forest. Hiking trails such as the Miradores Trail or the Tagus River Trail.

Torrejón el Rubio is an excellent destination for those seeking unspoiled nature, wildlife viewing, hiking, and peaceful tourism surrounded by the privileged environment of Monfragüe National Park, one of the best places in Spain for spotting birds such as the black vulture and the Spanish imperial eagle. Furthermore, its historical heritage, the friendliness of the locals, and its strategic location make it a very complete place for a weekend getaway or as a base for exploring Monfragüe.

We spontaneously interrupted our tour for lunch. The welcome was very warm and the daily menu was delicious. We can recommend the restaurant.

This church with the patronage “San Miguel Arcangel” was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The name (coming from the Hebrew language) means “Who is like God?” He is often depicted - in paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael and Gabriel, occasionally Uriel is also included - one of the three or four archangels who (according to human understanding) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the saints' calendar is September 29th.

On the slopes of the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve, the small town of Serrejón is surrounded by native oak forests. The bell tower of the 15th-century San Ildefonso church can be seen rising above the city as you cycle towards it.

The Picazo reservoir is in a pasture area a few kilometers from Serrejón. Together with the other ponds that are scattered near the path, it is an ideal place to stop and watch a great diversity of birds.

The most monumental building in Torrejón El Rubio. Right next to it is a bar if you want to rest for a while before going back along the Purple Route.

Surrounded by oak forest plantations, the small town of Serrejón is located in the foothills of the Sierra de Serrejón, on the eastern edge of the Monfragüe National Park. If you are passing through the town, stop to see the town hall square or the village church.
