On July 8, 1810, after landing on the Grande Chaloupe, a serious battle broke out between the French and the English. Both sides lost many men before the French surrendered. It must be said that the French, with 300 against 3,000 trained men, hardly had a chance. This mausoleum was only built in 1840 at the request of Nicole Robinet de Laserve, while the English expelled from the island were already honoring their dead with a mausoleum. That of the French, which only honors the officers and non-commissioned officers who died in battle, is more monumental. It stands on a base consisting of three espalier steps carved in basalt. On one side there is a marble slab honoring Hubert Delisle, Manès and Charles Deybassyns. Another plate on the other side lists the names of five military rangers. The surroundings are pleasant and allow to overlook the church of Notre Dame de la Délivrance.
