From the road, there is a beautiful view of Fort Malher. Also known as Lower Larmont Fort, this military fort was built in the 19th century directly opposite Joux Castle. It is part of the Séré de Rivières system, overlooking the village of La Cluse-et-Mijoux at an altitude of 1,032 meters.

La Cluse-et-Mijoux is a pretty village nestled at the bottom of a valley in the Jura Mountains. Busy with cars heading to Switzerland, the town boasts a wide range of shops and services. History buffs can visit Fort de Joux or Fort Malher, which overlook La Cluse-et-Mijoux. Several chapels (Saint-Léger and Saint-Claude) also dot the outskirts of the town.

The complex is impressive even from the outside and, despite its 1,000-year-old and eventful history, is still in good condition. It has been continuously modernized to accommodate the latest military and artillery technologies.

Section of road passing through a gorge with the Château de Joux on the heights on one side and the ruins of the lower Fort du Larmont, or Fort Mahler, on the other. This second, built in the 19th century, had the mission of protecting the Château de Joux.

If you are looking for a historic and picturesque hike, you can visit the ruins of the Reaumont castle in Bélieu, a commune in the Doubs department of France. The castle was built in the 14th century by Henry de Montfaucon, a nobleman who became the Count of Montbéliard. It was destroyed in 1639 by the troops of Louis XIII during the Thirty Years' War. We can still see the remains of the walls, towers and moats that defended this medieval fortress. The castle is located at an altitude of around 1000 meters and offers panoramic views of the valley below.
