The St. Jakobi Church, consecrated in 1149 by Bishop Vicelin and built in the Romanesque style, marks the historical center of the town of Bornhöved. A trumpet tree (Catalpa bignoides), also known as the “abundantly fruiting cigar tree”, planted in front of the church in 1912, is one of the oldest examples of its kind in northern Germany.
