Nice place, with not too much trafic. All along the Lys, you tend to see people close to the cities and villages, but then in between, it is quite a quiet place.

The Voie Verte de la Deûle in Lille is a flat and scenic route for cycle tourists. Winding along the banks of the Deûle, this greenway offers a perfect blend of urban and natural landscapes. Away from the busy streets of Lille, the path is well maintained and easily accessible, making it a great choice for a relaxed ride.

This historical monument, under the control of the Ministry of Defense, is the Citadel of Lille and the Museum of the Sedentary Artillerymen. It is called the Queen of Citadels, built by Vauban in 1670. The building is in the shape of a regular pentagon, reinforced by powerful bastions, within which the buildings are arranged in a star shape to form a large central courtyard. Around it and open to the public at all times is a beautiful park (with a zoo and a playground), but if you stay on the path, you walk along this star.

Today, Wattrelos is known for its textile, chemical and metallurgical industries. With a population of approximately 40,836 (2021), the town offers a mix of historic charm and modern amenities.

The Canal de la Deûle is one of the oldest canals in northern France, connecting the River Scarpe at Douai with the River Lys at Deûlémont, near the Belgian border. The canal is approximately 34.8 km long and has 3 locks. Most of the canal is incorporated into the Dunkerque-Escaut high-performance waterway, with the remaining section through the port of Lille often considered a branch of the main route, hence the alternative names Liaison or Antenne Bauvin-Lys.
