Built in 1674, the Pont-Vieux de Cluses required enhancement and restoration work that lasted nearly two years (2023-2024). Its original light color was restored: a mouse-gray limestone, comparable to that of the rock outcrops that line the Arve and are found at the foot of the piers.

This is the famous waterfall that can be seen from the highway. The Arpenaz waterfall is impressive at 270 meters high. It is ranked 3rd in the country and the 1st waterfall in the French Alps.

This bridge was the only one to allow the crossing of the Arve until the construction of the Pont Neuf in 1850. The first Pont Vieux was built at the time of the Romans and then rebuilt in the Middle Ages. The current bridge was built in 1674 and restored in 1833. An inscription engraved in the stone mentions the name of the architect

The Col de Cou, at an altitude of 1,117 metres, takes you from the Vallée Verte to the Côte-en-Chablais region. Several roads lead there, which allows you to train by varying the routes and difficulties. The hardest climb is the one on the western slope from Fessy, with seven kilometres at an average of 7.5%.

The longest road climb in the area, with “friendly” gradients of between 5-8%. There’s lots of traffic on Saturday s in the summer holidays but otherwise is normally fairly quiet. Is an incredible descent! Make sure you stop at the bakery in Areches which is open all day and has a great selection of goodies and water 😊
