The small sacred monument we encounter here is a universal symbol of the death of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who became man and was executed on the cross – but at the same time, it is also a sign of the overcoming of death in the resurrection. Thus, all crosses point us to the Easter perspective of hope – always inherent in Christianity – which, through faith in God, firmly trusts in the ability to overcome death and suffering. + "We Christians associate our hopes with the graces of heaven in particular. This gives our hope a concrete connection and grows from faith in God's goodness and love. And we know whom we can thank when our hopes are fulfilled, and whom we can entrust when our hopes are not. I believe this certainty is a grace in itself that we are allowed to experience." (Christiane Völkel)

The Basilica of the Visitation (Basilique de la Visitation) is a striking basilica in Annecy, France, built in the early 20th century and completed in 1930. Situated on a hill overlooking the town and Lake Annecy, it is the chapel of the Visitation Monastery, founded by Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Joan of Chantal, whose relics are preserved in gilded sarcophagi in the basilica. And a beautiful view of Annecy!

The patronage of this church, "Visitation of Mary (or, alternatively, Visitation of Mary)," refers to one of the many memorial or feast days in honor of the Mother of God. It is celebrated on different days, depending on the region or denomination, on May 31st or July 2nd. The term "Basilique de la Visitation," used here in French, describes the festival much more clearly. The old German term "Visitation"—which has negative connotations in our current expression and way of thinking—in the Bible simply refers to Mary's visit to her relative Elizabeth. Elizabeth was married to Zechariah, and the marriage remained childless, which was considered a social stigma at the time. However, despite her advanced age, she became pregnant, which the Archangel Gabriel told Mary when he brought her the message that she herself would give birth to the Son of God, Jesus. The son of Elizabeth and Zechariah becomes John, nicknamed “the Baptist,” who is considered the forerunner/paver of Jesus Christ.

The Pont Perrière in Annecy is one of the most iconic landmarks in this charming medieval town. Dating back to the 17th century, its arches span the Thiou River, offering a perfect view of Annecy's colorful buildings and picturesque canals, earning the town the nickname "Venice of the Alps."

There's probably no other place in Annecy where as many photos are taken as in front of the Palais de l'Île. The ultimate Instagram spot in Annecy: the Palais de l'Île, also called the Palais d'Isle. The palace is located in the heart of Annecy, on the Thiou River. Standing on the bridge in front of it, you'll quickly understand why Annecy is also called the Venice of the Alps. If you don't just want to take photos of the palace, you can also visit it. It used to be a prison; today it's a museum.
