The Couëron marshes, known as the Audubon marshes, are part of the vast group of estuarine marshes located near the Loire and closely linked to its regime. They represent 13% of the 65 km2 of the territory of the northern Loire marshes which extends to Cordemais. To these marshes are added the ancient islands of the Loire which have kept their name but are today attached to the shore: île de la Liberté, île de la Ville en Bois, île Thérèse, île du Grand Pineau… The wetlands constitute a natural heritage and a privileged place for numerous animal and plant species.

La Maison dans la Loire was created by the French artist Jean-Luc Courcoult in 2007. It is a work of public art. After capsizing in her original location in 2012, she was hoisted to her current location, where she now rests on more stable pilings.
