Montbrun-les-Bains, nestled at the foot of Mont Ventoux, is a typical Provençal hilltop village, surrounded by magnificent landscapes. From its cobbled streets and stone houses, you can enjoy superb views of the valley and the surrounding lavender fields. Renowned for its thermal baths, Montbrun-les-Bains is an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation and serenity. The roads around the village offer beautiful walks through unspoiled nature, with breathtaking panoramas of the Provençal mountains and hills.

Built on a rock, the tall houses with six or seven levels are dominated by the ruins of a Renaissance castle of which only the round and crenellated towers remain. Also worth seeing are the belfry and the watchtower, a true testament to 13th century military architecture. The sloping streets are flanked by refreshing fountains. These small springs are a reminder that Montbrun-les-Bains is above all an important spa resort, known since Roman times for the benefits of its sulphurous waters which relieve rheumatism and treat the respiratory tract. Indeed, thanks to its highly sulphurous springs already exploited in Roman times, Montbrun-les-Bains was a very fashionable resort from the 16th century to the Revolution. As thermalism was in vogue, the Marquis de Suarez d'Aulan had a spa establishment built there in 1865, copied from the one in Baden-Baden. Montbrun then became an important spa village cited as an example in medical circles. The First World War was unfortunately fatal to the establishment's activities, which could not reopen after the conflict. After major works, the resumption of thermal activity would not resume until the 1970s and 1980s.

The marls shape the landscape into dunes of soft rock with arid slopes. True witnesses to the Lower Cretaceous period (approximately 135 million years ago), these Valanginian marls are mainly composed of limestone, sand, and clay, giving them a crumbly appearance when dry. Tinged with a grey or yellowish hue, they bear witness to a time when the ocean covered the Provençal Baronnies, which were then nothing more than a vast marine trench: the Vocontian Basin.

The route around the mountain of Vic, with breathtaking views, joins the small hamlets of Vénéjean, Vic, La Villette which experienced a prosperous period during Roman times. The discoveries in these places have brought to light vestiges of constructions which testify to a certain ease. Wheat, vines and olive trees could dispense here all their wealth. Work on the road to Aulan has revealed the existence, for irrigation, of a canal cut in the hard rock of the gorges, allowing the waters of the Toulourenc to be domesticated.

Spa resort, green resort, Montbrun-les-Bains is also one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is nestled between the Mont Ventoux and the Montagne de Lure.
