Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Genève The architecture of the Saint Pierre Cathedral has undergone numerous changes over the course of history. The first construction phase dates back to 1160 and lasted almost a century. During the Reformation period, it served as a Protestant church from 1535. The strenuous climb up the 157 steps to the top of the tower is rewarded with a breathtaking 360° panoramic view of the city and the lake. The church also has the highest number of Romanesque and Gothic capitals in Switzerland. Beneath the cathedral is the archaeological excavation site, where remains from antiquity can be seen. The Jet d'eau fountain - which shouldn't be one With its 140 m height, the Jet d'Eau has become a real symbol of Geneva over time. History has it that the famous Geneva fountain is practically a product of chance. In 1886, the hydroelectric power station that brought the energy of the Rhone to Geneva's craftsmen and watchmakers was forced to release the excess water pressure into the open air when the workshops closed in the evening. Very nice to go around the lake with this impressive water jet. I also recommend however to gain height by doing the route which leaves from the observatory and its restaurant, you walk on the mountainside, above the void with on one side a panorama of Mont Blanc and on the other a plunging view of Geneva! Top!
