The lower reaches of the Regen with its floodplains, rocks in the water, and surrounding forests are particularly beautiful and laid-back in sunny weather. Hopefully, it stays that way!

As the name suggests, this is a typical construction of old customs houses.

The two-part fountain symbolizes art on the one hand and the waterway on the other. Both could stand alone, but together they form a symbiotic relationship through their blending forms. Source: https://www.bodenwoehr.de/freizeit-tourismus/kunst-und-wasserweg/

Castle Hof am Regen A Marchwardus from the Hove is mentioned around the year 1158 but is not certain. Ducal documents in 1204 mention the brothers "Eberhard and Rudiger de curia" for the first time. Otto von Hof was in Vitzthum in 1265 in the important Bavarian stronghold of Lengenfeld. In 1284, Eberhard is even listed as the duchess's steward - "one of the most important favors of the sovereign". All evidence that the Hofer were among the most respected ministerial families of the Wittelsbacher. The family quickly split into other branches, which spread to the castles in the area. In 1318, Ludwig the Bavarian mortgaged his castle in Stefling to Eberhard von Hof. In 1340 this Eberhard rebuilt Lobenstein Castle and took up residence there. While the Hofer von Lobenstein still live in Württemberg today, the Hofer von Hof probably died out towards the end of the 14th century. Their castle goes to Jörg Pleysteiner in 1489, who arranges for the chapel to be painted in the Gothic style. After that, there were frequent changes of ownership. In 1805 the castle burned down, but was repaired again. Access to the castle is through a gabled gatehouse. The tower itself is now surrounded by more modern residential buildings, some of which are based on the medieval foundations of the circular wall. A shallow ditch has been preserved to the west, which used to surround the whole complex, to the south a farmstead with a gate that once served as a bailey. The prominent remainder of the high medieval castle is the impressive tower made of medium-sized, carefully hewn ashlars. It is 15 m high and the walls are 1.5 m thick. The entrance was several meters high. On the lower floor is the Romanesque chapel with late Gothic wall paintings that are well worth seeing and have just been extensively restored. They show a crucifixion scene, Saints Peter, George, Barbara and others. The narrow chapel window in its current form is probably a more recent addition, which can be clearly seen from the differently colored stones. A staircase in the wall leads from a small aristocratic gallery to the two living or military floors, the uppermost of which was added later. A small room is partitioned above the chapel chancel, its purpose is puzzling. Researchers are discussing whether the building was originally designed as a chapel residential tower, or whether an existing church was simply built over. Source: www.burgenseite.de
