The castle Hohrupf (or Hohenrupf) is located in Lautenbachzell (Upper Rhine). It was probably built by Berthold de Steinbronn, abbot of Murbach from 1260 to 1285, to protect the abbey. A rectangular dungeon (10 m x 8 m) crowned the summit at a height of 813 m. The date of the abandonment of the castle, which served as a prison in 1444, is not known.
