THE LINGEKOPF. AN EXTRAORDINARY MEMORIAL OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR IN ALSACE On July 20, 1915, a short but bloody battle began that lasted only three months but claimed the lives of nearly 20,000 young Germans and French, with the aim of conquering the heights of the Lingekopf in the Vosges Mountains. The Memorial du Linge revives this tragedy. Visitors are first shown a short film explaining the geopolitical background of this battle.
