The fortified town, originally called "Boutae" - then "Annecy-le-Neuf" before being called "Alt-Annecy" - boasts one of the most ancient pasts, including important remains of "sea villages" from the Neolithic period (-4000). B.C.). In the Middle Ages, many craftsmen settled on the banks of the Thiou River and took advantage of its motive power. Feudal lords and the Count of Geneva established themselves in Annecy on both sides. Super fun descent!! Really long and the road is really swoopy and fun. Completely worth the climb up. Plus view of Annecy lake in a lay-by!

Alas sign absent during my visit. Very nice shaded climb from Annecy as you cross state forests. Only the last two kilometers are in full sun.
