Returning from Algeria in 1863, Léon Lesca was the first to buy a private estate on Cap Ferret. He built a beautiful set of buildings there, including the majestic Algerian Villa and the Algerian Chapel, the only one that still exists today. It was completed by the architect Eugène Ormières in 1885 in the neo-Moorish style, mixing Christian and Muslim symbols, Latin and Arabic inscriptions on its façade, reflecting the cultural influences of the patron. It remained for a long time the only place of worship on the peninsula.
