Space for a repair - but above all a fresh water place with a bench especially for cyclists

The bell tower of the Notre-Dame des Marais church in Marans is an unusual monument not to be missed. Dating from 1988, it is resolutely modern, combining materials such as stone, glass, and metal.

An ideal route to escape the monotony of the Marans Canal and reach La Rochelle in the most beautiful way along the ocean from the top of the cliffs. Apart from a short stretch of a little-used departmental road (be careful, though) before Esnandes, the rest of the route is mostly a greenway. Once you reach the Île de Ré bridge, you can easily reach the center of La Rochelle via the cycle paths. Along the way: the tourist office at the Maison de la baie du marais poitevin, various mussel and oyster tasting huts, the charming Port du Plomb, a tavern behind the beach at Anse de Pampin in the summer, etc.

Magnificent view of the bay

The carrelets are fishermen's huts built on stilts. The maritime setting is fantastic, with a panoramic view of the sea as far as the eye can see, and the Aiguillon Bay National Nature Reserve.
