Hemp was an indispensable raw material during the milling period here. Its fibers were strong and resilient, and they were processed into all kinds of products, such as clothing, bags, and cloths. The hemp mill helped separate the fibers from the other plant parts and prepare them for further processing.

The waterfalls extend over several stages. In the upper part of the valley, the mighty boulders of the 'Champs de Pierres' are also worth noting.

The building from the end of the 12th century is composed of a nave with three bays, a transept and a choir with a flat apse. In the nave, the barrel vault with beams rests on broken arch arcades supported by capitals with crossettes and fluted bases. Four half-columns with capitals with foliage and heads decorate the transept and receive the arches of the pointed vault as well as that of the choir. The molding dates from the 14th century. The bedside window is decorated with a trefoil tracery. The lake was created in 1944 and feeds Lac de Vassivière through an underground aquaduct providing hydroelectric power. The site is classified as a Natura 2000 area as a natural area of ecological, faunal and floristic interest. This particular place is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the lake and the beach.

The waterfalls stretch for just over 4 kilometers and are a great place to sit and reflect while listening to the deafening din of rushing water.

Lac de Lavaud Gelade with an area of 300 hectares. It is one of the largest in Creuse, just a few kilometers from Lac de Vassivière. It is classified Natura 2000, and retains a wild side. The calm is very appreciable there.
