A superb Corrèze village that has been awarded the "most beautiful village in France" label. The village was part of the Viscounty of Turenne and developed from the 11th century onwards.

Bretenoux is a fortified town in the Haut-Quercy region, recognizable by its checkerboard layout and large central square lined with arcades. The abbey church of the former Benedictine monastery in Beaulieu dates back to the 12th century. Romanesque at its finest. The south portal is particularly impressive, with its detailed tympanum depicting Christ with his disciples. The adjoining bell tower dates from the 14th century. Only the remains of the monastery walls and the chapter house remain.
