The Chouvigny gorges follow the Sioule river, which has carved a deep and narrow gorge through the volcanic rocks of the Combrailles region. You'll enjoy views of lush greenery, towering cliffs and the medieval Chouvigny Castle, which dates from the 13th century. You can also stop at the village of Chouvigny, which has a rich history and charming atmosphere.

The Sioule gorges extend from Ébreuil, passing through Chouvigny, and as far as the meander of Queuille, in the well of Puy-de-Dôme. The road, which winds through the rocks, offers magnificent views of the steep and verdant gorges.

This beautiful castle is privately owned and cannot be visited. Its defensive aspect is explained by its geographical location. It is situated on a terrace overlooking the left bank of the Sioule River. It was therefore highly strategic. The castle's origins date back to the 11th century. It was only around the 13th century that the lords of the time understood the importance of the site for defending the southern border of their domain towards Auvergne.
