Malo-les-Bains is a former commune in the Nord department, in the Dunkirk agglomeration. It was created in 1891 by detachment from the municipality of Rosendaël. On January 1, 1970, it merged with Dunkirk, of which it now constitutes one of the districts, commonly called “Malo”.

Dunkirk's first lighthouse was built in 1683 and demolished in 1713 as a result of the Peace of Utrecht.[1] On November 5, 1838, ministerial approval was granted for the construction of a new lighthouse on the same site.
