This glacial lake, backed by limestone cliffs, is sometimes sapphire in color, sometimes emerald - Alexandre Dumas wrote in his book Impression de voyage in 1834: "This pretty little sapphire blue lake, set like a jewel, that nature would fear to lose."

A typical Jura ridge trail: cliff on one side, forest on the other, sharp rocks and large roots peeking out, and constant steep sections (uphill and downhill). It's not the worst I've seen: aside from the steep sections, no section is technically impossible for an experienced mountain biker. The view of the Grand Crêt d'Eau, the Crêt de Chalam, and the Haut-Jura is also pretty good.

The Marron ponds have been labeled “Sensitive Natural Spaces” since 2015. They take their name from a family from Brénod. They were created around 1120 and once served as a water and fishing reserve for the monks of Meyriat Abbey.
