The Château de Châteauneuf-du-Pape is situated on a hill with panoramic views over the Rhône plain. The castle ruins date back to the 14th century and showcase medieval papal architecture. Wine lovers can sample the appellation's famous red wines in the surrounding area. The grounds offer numerous hiking trails between vineyards and lavender fields. Visitors gain insights into the history of the papal summer residence and the regional culture of Provence.

The Rocalinaud Rock, also called the "Moon Rock," is a mass of sand formed by wind, rain, and humans over more than a million years. This rock is an unusual and enigmatic site, ideally located in the heart of a vineyard, east of the village of Beaumes-de-Venise. It is the remains of an underwater dune formed during the Miocene. Rocalinaud bears the shape of a strange, hooked beak.

Great place to picnic at the top with the option of a quick vin rouge at the tasting at the top

It is a unique geological curiosity in the region that is definitely worth a visit.

This place also has a nice little campsite from where we started our bike tours.

Old chapel with a distinctive tower, which currently (June 2024) cannot be visited from the inside. The medieval herb garden is beautifully laid out. If you go down the stairs to the valley you come to a small fountain (not drinking water) with a mystical corridor next to it, which can probably be visited sometimes.

A rocky path takes you to the top. There you have a beautiful view of the surroundings and can see the rocks up close. A man-made rock cave can be visited. You should have a fairly good head for heights.
