The original Marian shrine "La Salette," which is referred to in this patronal feast, is located in the French Alps (Grenoble district) and is an important Marian shrine, even if it has not achieved the same level of fame as other pilgrimage sites honoring the Mother of God—such as Lourdes in the French Pyrenees or Fatima in Portugal. Arranged on the hillside which dominates the course of the Petite Maine, the sanctuary of La Salette is made up of various constructions which marked the parish life of the end of the 19th century and shows the fervor of the Vendée people for the cult of the Virgin. La Salette is made up of three ensembles and a Stations of the Cross, all in an exotic plant universe. Through a scenography on several levels, Abbé Hillairet reproduced the episodes of the apparition of the Virgin Mary to two young children, Maximin Giraud and Mélanie Calvat. At the top of the hillside, a square keep houses La Croix taken by pilgrims to the Holy Land.

An astonishing monument built at the end of the 19th century by the villagers of La Rabatelière at the initiative of their abbot who wanted to reproduce the pilgrimage to Notre-Dame de la Salette. A journey of penance which may seem somewhat surreal today, but testifies to the devotion of the Vendée peasants.
