A beautiful castle

Magnificent walk in the surrounding marshes, in a quite unique landscape! Discovery of a facet of Normandy.

Through the pastures and waterways, you can admire the rich natural and cultural heritage of this wetland which is home to many species of fauna and flora.

On Mount Besneville are three old mills. One of them was used as a chapel after the Second World War, it is surmounted by a large crucifix. The second mill has an orientation table at its top, while the third is in ruins.

The Château de Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte is a castle dating from the 11th century. Sacked twice during the Hundred Years War, it is now in ruins. Although not as impressive as some castles that are still intact, this castle is open to the public and very accessible. It is a wonderful place to visit.

The forest trail is very informative. From time to time there are also natural art installations. The hiking trails in the forest are of quite different nature. The wide paths are easy to walk on, the narrower paths on the southern edge of the forest are sometimes quite overgrown and muddy (I've already taken off my shoe there).

Located in the center of Cotentin, Saint-Sauveur-Le-Vicomte has vast expanses of marshes, a pretty forest massif and several hilly sites, culminating at Mont de Taillepied.
