Stunning structure along the Nantes-Brest Canal. Can be used as a bikepacking shelter. Shops nearby.

This modern oratory symbolically replaced a large chapel, unfortunately destroyed during the Battle of Saint-Nazaire, which was on the other bank, on the Guenrouet side, occupied by the Germans. It is a very pleasant section of the Nantes-Brest Canal, much wilder due to its vegetation and the meandering river.

Beautiful and large, typically Breton church. There are restrooms in the parking lot and a good bakery in front of the church.

Built in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 19th century, the Château de la Bretesche stands out for its privileged location on the water's edge. Seeing it suddenly appear as you cycle along the D2 is a splendid sight.

I really didn't understand how to get to the dolmen. The path that was supposed to go there was blocked off. I was able to take a photo over the hedge of the field next door, but it was still very disappointing.

Former residence of the Barons of La Roche Bernard and center of Protestantism. The castle impresses with its romantic and fairytale side. Only the courtyard is open to the public (the interior of the castle is not accessible).

Little is known about its architecture, except that it was the object, mainly at the end of the 17th and 18th centuries, of several enlargements. Partly destroyed during the last world war, it was rebuilt as you see it today. High point of the reconstruction of this church. These stained glass windows constitute an artistic ensemble that we owe to the master glassmaker Gabriel LOIRE of the Chartres workshops. Using a completely new technique in the art of stained glass, namely the use of the glass slab set in cement, which allows the refraction of light in such a way, that it seems to come more from the interior of the glass only from behind.

In the middle of this tangle of branches, brambles, appear mounds of earth, scattered stones, sections of walls, the only witnesses of the distant presence in this place of a fortress. The castle of Lorieux ("loc-rieux", the place of the Rieux, noble family), was built at the same time as the large surrounding fortresses, on the orders of Alain the Great, king of Brittany, in order to protect his kingdom from the Norman invasions. Around 1130, the castle became the residence of the Viscounts of Donges, but during the Wars of Religion, the troops of the Duke of Mercoeur attacked the castle. Later, in 1614, Richelieu decreed the disappearance of this fortress, considered a Huguenot lair. In 1618, the leveling order was carried out. Legends abound on these mysterious ruins. It is said that underground passages start from this fortress.
