The Belfry of Boulogne-sur-Mer is an old keep from the 12th century in the northern French city of Boulogne-sur-Mer (Bonen), which was used as a belfry by the city. It is one of 56 belfries in Belgium and France that have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This belfry used to be the watchtower of the count's palace. The lower sections are from the 11th and 13th centuries. The top mount is from the 17th century and has a bell, called estourmie, weighing 4048 kg. The town hall is located in front of the belfry. This was built in 1734 and from this time the mayor's office and the wedding hall, in rococo style, still remain. There is also the banquet hall or salle Eurvin. You can also visit the council chamber and a Japanese garden. (Michelin)

Many churches in France are dedicated to Mary, Mother of God, and have “Notre-Dame” (in German “Our Lady”) in their name. This church in Boulogne-sur-Mer has the addition “de l’Immaculée Conception”, i.e. the “Immaculate Conception”. This term, which is perhaps a little difficult to understand these days, means that from the beginning, through the grace of God, the Mother of God was freed from the burden of original sin - which every human being carries within themselves. The feast “Maria - Immaculata Conceptio” of the Immaculate Conception of Mary (in the Catholic liturgy it is correctly said: “Solemnity of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, conceived without original sin)” is celebrated on December 8th.
