この印象的な十字路の起源は17世紀にまで遡ると言われており、フランス革命中など、その後何度か破壊されましたが、その都度再建されてきました。交差部、つまり十字架の縦梁と横梁の交差点は閉じた円として設計されており、横梁には「Croix de Calvaire」という碑文が刻まれています。この名前は、ゴルゴタ（アラム語で、ラテン語由来のCalvaireと同様に「頭蓋骨の場所」を意味する）でのイエス・キリストの磔刑を記念するカルバリー山を指しています。

The crossing, i.e. the intersection of the longitudinal and cross beams of the cross, is designed as a closed circle; the cross beam bears the inscription "Croix de Calvaire". The name refers to Calvary, in memory of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Golgotha (this Aramaic word means - like Calvaire, which is derived from Latin - "place of the skull") near Jerusalem.

There is a small museum. The painters (impressionists) used to live in the house.
