The lake lies in a deflation pan. This is a natural, circular, shallow depression caused by the removal of relatively loose, primarily Pliocene, sediment by wind erosion during very cold, windy phases of the Quaternary.

This beautiful cycle path, which starts from the Canet-Saint-Nazaire pond, heads inland to reveal the rural and wine-growing landscapes of the hinterland.

Built in the late 19th century in a modernist style, it stands out for its elegant architecture and its privileged location with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees. The castle is surrounded by the Valmy Park, a green space that includes gardens and picnic areas, ideal for strolling and enjoying the scenery. In addition, the area is famous for its wines; in fact, the castle houses a winery where wines from the Côtes du Roussillon appellation are produced, making it a place of both historical and gastronomic interest.

The Notre-Dame-de-Vie hermitage was built in the 18th century and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, like many other hermitages in the region. Located in the Albères massif, it was restored by the association for the protection of hermitages in Argelès. Declared a protected site since 1944, the hermitage is surrounded by Mediterranean oaks and maples, and has an adjoining chapel dedicated to Saint Jerome, restored between 2017 and 2018. The hermitage is also linked to Saint Magdalene, considered the protector of the site, who, according to tradition, ended her life in spiritual retreat in Provence. Devotion to Mary Magdalene is documented in the region since the 17th century.
