The Col des Bœufs is a symbolic passage which separates the circus of Mafate from that of Salazie. At the end of a few wooden steps, it offers a nice last glimpse of the Cirque de Mafate before embarking on a fairly wide track.

The plain of Tamarins is a plateau of the Cirque de Mafate. It is crossed by the path that connects the islets of La Nouvelle and Marla to the col des Bœufs and the Fourche.
