A fabulous vantage point overlooking the wooded valley, which from here upstream is also referred to as a gorge. No sounds of civilization spoil the experience. In dry weather, the rocks offer a perfect resting place.

You can also reach this point on foot via the GR 38, which also runs along one of the Ways of St. James (yellow and blue crossbars), from Quimper's old town. You can then continue along the trail down to the Odet River (white and red crossbars) or take the rustic path above the river to the viewpoint above the Stangala Gorge (yellow crossbar).

Apparently, they're in the process of repairing/restoring the locks. The water level was lowered for this purpose. This was the case in June 2024 - @Lydie attached a picture showing that the water level is back to normal. This means that the work on the locks that were repaired is now complete.

The approach is a bit confusing: you drive through an emerging commercial area and then stand directly on the parking lot at the southern starting point. But then you are outside very quickly and find yourself in a beautiful and impressive piece of nature.

Very convenient car park to access the Stangala Gorges. Be careful though: from September to March, the hike is only accessible on Tuesdays and Fridays, because it is located in an area where hunting is authorized.

Viewpoint over the Stangala valley, at the bottom of which the Odet flows, just before arriving in Quimper. It takes its name from "stankenn" which means "valley" in Breton and from Saint Alar, a very popular patron saint in the Quimper region.

Easy access, on the outskirts of Quimper. Small free parking with map. After that, you enjoy the beautiful track following the river. There are some muddy and rocky places. So good walking shoes are advisable. No need to be an expert for this walk.
