Nice Chapelle with the view on the Baye de la Somme

The port of Le Crotoy. Here you can find the best fish in the area. At the "Les Fils de la Mer" stall. But only on weekends: Friday to Sunday and on some holidays.

The chapel is also called the Sailors' Chapel. It lies quietly and secluded on the hill above the bay.

From the chapel on the hill, there is a beautiful view of the bay and Le Grotoy.

The Saint-Valery chapel, also known as the "sailors' chapel", is an emblematic place in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, nestled on the heights of the town, in a picturesque and peaceful setting. Its location offers you a superb view of the Bay of Somme. In neo-Gothic style, the chapel is built in stone, with the famous sandstone and flint checkerboards. The bell tower is topped with a cross above which a metal gull indicates the direction of the wind. The stained glass windows tell episodes from the life of Saint Valery. Ex-votos, often in the form of models of boats or commemorative plaques, are placed there by the sailors in thanks for their survival or in homage to those who perished.

A pretty little place. Not quite so crowded. We also saw the market there.

On a hill in the historic fishing district of le Courtgain is a small chapel Chapelle des Marins. The small houses of the fishing families are behind the large buildings on the quay. You will find these in Rue des Moulins and Rue des Pilotes, colorful streets at the bottom of the hill. The hill was the vantage point for the women to see if their men were returning home. In the chapel prayers were said for a safe voyage, a good return home and for good luck on the next voyage. The chapel dates from the nineteenth century, but was completely renovated in 1995.
