Not far from the puy de Sancy, the chain of the puys de Cacadogne and des Crebasses offers a beautiful view of the summit of the Crête de Coq and the Chaudefour valley.

From here, the view of the Puy de Sancy is breathtaking, ideal for a contemplative break during a hike. The summit you are observing is neither more nor less than the highest in the Massif Central. Surrounded by alpine valleys and steep ridges, the sunrises are particularly beautiful.

Located at 1,886 meters above sea level, the Puy de Sancy is the highest point of the Massif Central but also of Auvergne. Considered the king of the Monts Dore, this stratovolcano is 300,000 years old. At the top the panorama of the surroundings is magnificent, on a clear day it is even possible to see Mont Blanc!

Because its 1,886 meters of altitude project it onto the roof of Auvergne, the Puy de Sancy is considered the king of the Monts Dore. 300,000 years old when its neighbors in Cantal are 20 million years old, this stratovolcano has experienced relentless erosion. As a result, its flanks are notched and the circuses that surround it overflow with majesty. On the neighboring ridges, you can make out jagged rocks in the middle of grassy slopes. The Puy de Chambourguet peaks at 1,520 meters above sea level and proudly dominates the winter sports resort of Super-Besse. From its summit, you can also see Lake Pavin. And during the summer, if you are lucky, maybe a few frolicking marmots.
