The Franciscans (called "Barefoot Friars" because of their bare feet) settled in Erfurt as early as 1224 – it was one of their first establishments in the German-speaking world. Construction of the present church began after a city fire in 1291. The chancel was consecrated in 1316, while the nave was not completed until the early 15th century. The church is a three-aisled basilica with pillars. Typical of the mendicant order is the absence of a grand west tower; instead, it has a slender roof lantern (and a small tower on the north side).

Always worth a trip. Families with children will get their money's worth here! Playground, snack bar and restaurant available. And the view over the forest is simply magical, especially in autumn!

A very beautiful part of town, located right on the water. It really reminds you of Venice with all the bridges and the houses that are right on the water. In the summer, however, there is a lot going on here - well into the night.
