Towering over Argenton-sur-Creuse is the gilded statue of the Bonne Dame, a beacon visible from afar. What few people know is that this six-meter-high statue was dragged from the train station to the chapel in 1899 by ten oxen and thirteen horses, to the loud applause of the town's inhabitants. Today, you can hike up the hill yourself and be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Creuse valley—with the Bonne Dame still standing guard over the town.

From this bridge, you have a lovely view of the colorful houses of Argenton-sur-Creuse. Argenton-sur-Creuse succeeded the Gallo-Roman city of Argentomagus in Saint-Marcel. The site still contains exceptional traces and remains of the ancient city.

Argenton is revealed through old streets, old wheel mills, houses with wooden galleries as if suspended above the river. From the Esplanade de la Bonne Dame, a superb panorama emerges which stretches towards the green hills of the Creuse valley, an ideal setting for a weekend of cycling alone or with friends.

From the outside, this church may look like any other, but I recommend taking a look inside. The interior of the church was decorated in bright colors in the 1970s by a Bolivian artist, Jorge Carrasco. A must see.

This castle is actually the local town hall. It sits within its own moat and originally had a drawbridge which was replaced with a permanent bridge. The original building dates back to the 11th century.

Crossing the small river "Les longes Fonts" after "Les Bignaux" is hardly possible! It's better to stay on the bike path until the next street.
