The Etang Saint-Ladre Nature Reserve in Boves is located near Amiens, in the Avre Valley, a tributary of the Somme River. In 1979, it became the first site in Picardy to be designated a state-owned nature reserve. The ecological management implemented since the 1990s has allowed the development of a complex mosaic of habitats, among the most representative of alkaline peatland systems, supporting characteristic, and often heritage, flora and fauna. Created in 1919, the Méry-la-Bataille national necropolis contains the remains of 1,538 soldiers who died for France during the Battle of Matz in June 1918.
