Slag heap number 5 in Lapugnoy, a vestige of the mining era in northern France, today offers a unique view of the surrounding landscapes. Covered with vegetation, this slag heap, once a symbol of industrial labour, has become a popular walking spot for hikers and nature lovers. Climbing its slopes, you will discover a striking panorama of the surrounding plains and forests.

Carreau Valley redeveloped to highlight the mining heritage. The paths that were once dirt are now gravel, ideal for walking or cycling. Don't hesitate to go up to the terriloscope. By putting your eye at the level of the holes provided for this purpose you will see what the height of the slag heaps was in their heyday. This allows you to see the effects of time.

If you want to discover the industrial heritage of the region, you can hike to the Terril n°5 Lapugnoy, a former slag heap of the Marles coal mines. You can enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside and the Bois de Lapugnoy. You can also learn about the history and the ecology of the site, which has been reclaimed by nature and wildlife. The slag heap is about 60 meters high and covers an area of 14.35 hectares.
