Simply always impressive

This brutalist church was built from 1965 to 1967 according to plans by architect Norbert Heltschl. The freestanding, sculptural bell tower is particularly striking. A drinking water fountain is located directly next to the tower.

Since 1986, the school rooms have been housed in the community center. In 1995, the old school building was demolished and the second part of the community center was built in its place.

The place name is first written down in a document from 1299 as Irss. The meaning is Romansh iert ('steep'). The original word was therefore *Iertes/Iertenes or similar.
