About 2 km north of the village of Poulithra the long beach ends, and a couple of beach coves are tucked below the cliffs, with pebble and sand under crystal clear waters.

A panoramic view rewards for riding the countless switchbacks. Enjoy this overlook at about 600 m above sea level before continuing south to climb another 300 m to the 900 m road summit. In winter there can be snow on the road.

Rolling along the coastal road you will catch glimpses of the rugged coast below, sometimes opening up to protected bays, maybe even draped with small beaches.

The history of the monastery begins in the year 1300. Shepherds saw a light in an inaccessible place on the cliff. This light, according to legend, came from an oil lamp that was lit in front of an icon of St. Panagia. The bishop commissioned two hermits from the area, Kallinikos and Dositheos, to settle at the site where the icon was found, where they then built a small monastery with two cells. Source: Wikipedia
