12月 3, 2025, Mont Saint-Germain Archaeological Site
An interesting site, especially thanks to the various information panels. The climb through the woods (more pleasant than the road, which is closed to traffic anyway) is enjoyable. However, it might seem a bit steep for those who aren't in good shape. There's a beautiful viewpoint at the top, and numerous trails allow you to extend the walk. The starting car park fills up quite quickly, but it's perfectly possible to park in the village, which is what we did. A sunny day is definitely preferable!

Each of these crosses that the biker encounters in the villages or in the fields is a sign of remembrance of the crucifixion, but also of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. "Here on earth there is His memory, but in the kingdom of heaven there is His presence: this presence is the joy of those who have already reached salvation. The memory is our consolation, as we are still wanderers, traveling towards our homeland." (Bernard of Clairvaux)

6月 11, 2024, Gorze–Metz Roman Aqueduct (Jouy-aux-Arches)
The aqueduct connecting Gorze to Metz is a Roman aqueduct built at the beginning of the second century. Divodurum (Metz) is the capital of the Mediomatris, at the crossroads of the south-north and east-west axes, i.e. on the Roman roads from Lyon to Trier and from Reims to Strasbourg. The city, which had about 20,000 inhabitants in the second century, needed a supply of spring water to supply the fountains, the three Roman baths, the public latrines and the craftsmen. The exact distribution points are not known because no trace remains (Wikipedia).

This cross was erected in memory of the first bishop of Metz, at the place where he would have seen the city for the first time.

This impressive aqueduct is emblematic of the region. It was built at the beginning of the 2nd century and had the function of transporting drinking water from the source of "bouillons de Gorze" to the thermal baths and the fountain of Metz, formerly Divodorum. The aqueduct was 22 kilometers long at its origin. It spanned the Moselle valley for more than a kilometer. Today, there are 16 arches that can be seen on this site in Jouy-aux-Arches and 7 arches on the side of Ars-sur-Moselle.

4月 8, 2023, Fort Saint-Quentin
The Fortifications of Saint-Quentin, or Feste Prinz Friedrich Karl form a fortification group in the Scy-Chazelles municipality located northwest of Metz on the Mont Saint-Quentin. Constituted by forts Diou and Girardin, the group is part of the first fortified belt of forts around Metz and had its baptism of fire in late 1944, when the Battle of Metz occurred. The fortified group of forts known as Saint-Quentin belongs to the first fortified belt of Metz designed during Second French Empire by Napoléon III. The first fortified belt consists of Fort Saint-Privat (1870), Fort de Queuleu (1867), Fort des Bordes (1870), Fort de Saint-Julien (1867), Fort Gambetta, Déroulède, Fort Decaen, Fort de Plappeville (1867) and St. Quentin (1867), most of them unfinished or in skeletal form in 1870, when the Franco-Prussian War began. During the annexation, Metz oscillate between a German garrison of 15,000 and 20,000 men at the beginning of the period[1] and will exceed 25,000 men just before the First World War,[2] gradually becoming the premier stronghold of the German Reich.

Starting and finishing point for many mountain bike outings, the Saint-Clément cross is also a legendary place since Clément, coming from Rome, would have stopped there and kneeling in front of Metz, would have marked the rock with his knees. . He needed at least this strength to defeat the famous Dragon Graouilly, symbol of pre-Christian beliefs to be destroyed. If the dragon is dead, its legend lives on and is still alive in Metz today.
