9月 5, 2025, Molen De Hoop (Sint Philipsland)
🌾⚙️ De Hoop Mill – Sint Philipsland In the heart of Sint Philipsland stands De Hoop Mill 🏡🌾, a beautiful 19th-century grain mill. The white, round stone mill with its sails ⚙️ is visible from afar and forms a prominent landmark in the village. Grain used to be ground here 🌾➡️🍞, and the mill played an important role in the daily lives of the residents. Today, it is primarily a monument to history and craftsmanship 🕰️, but occasionally the sails still turn to keep the old craft alive. The mill exudes peace and strength 💪, nestled in the open Zeeland landscape. With the sky and clouds above it ☁️ and the polders surrounding it 🌿, it feels as if time has stood still.

6月 30, 2025, Slaakbrug Over the Schelde-Rijnkanaal
Well, it may be a geographical spot, but the industrial area and the mediocre road surfaces don't make it particularly attractive. A little further on, past the golf course on the dike, the charm of Zeeland begins 😎

Between dike post 702+50 meters and dike post 703+75 meters there is a harbor. Commercial shipping with home port Sint Philipsland but use of that.

3月 9, 2025, Molen De Hoop (Sint Philipsland)
Molen De Hoop is a corn mill from 1724 on the Oostdijk in Sint Philipsland. It is an octagonal ground-sailer with a flight of 17.60 meters. The mill remained in operation until 1969. In 1972 and 1988 restoration work was carried out. The latter was particularly special. After the dike where the mill stands was brought to Delta height, the mill ended up, as it were, in a hole. That is why the mill was jacked up in its entirety. So that the mill could dominate the dike again as before.

9月 18, 2024, De Steenbergse Haven - Kaai
The Quay was formed in the years 1630-1631, after the harbour had been moved from the Oostdam to its current location. The name is derived from the revetment and water barrier. The Steenbergse Haven or Kaai, is the name of the city and marina of Steenbergen. The oldest part of the harbour dates from the 14th century. The excavated course to the Vliet is younger and is a former part of the fortifications of Steenbergen. The former Fort Henricus at the mouth of the harbour belonged to the same fortifications. Before the reclamation of the Graaf Hendrikpolder, the area around Fort Henricus was a mudflat and gorzen area. The harbour canal to the current harbour is the same as to the old harbour and was closed in 1538 by the reclamation of the aforementioned polder and reopened in 1580. Until the 1970s, the harbour was heavily used by cargo ships that brought sugar beets to the sugar factory located in Steenbergen. In the middle part of the harbour are so-called water houses. These are houses with their own or shared jetty on the waterfront. Behind this is the marina, which consists of approximately 160 berths. Behind that is the old city harbour with around thirty berths. This part of the harbour runs to the Kaaistraat, almost in the centre of Steenbergen. The Gummarus Church is a church with an eventful history. Let's go back in time. The history of this parish, just like the city, spans many centuries. For example, in the first half of the 13th century there was a church in Steenbergen. Before 1460, that old church was replaced by a new one, dedicated to Saint James. This church stood on the site where the Reformed Church now stands. Although the current Saint Gummarus Church was put into use in 1902, the church has a history that goes back to the late 13th century, when the first church in Steenbergen was founded. This early church, of which no images are known, was replaced around 1505-1510 by a long Gothic cruciform church dedicated to James the Greater, the Saint James Church. During the Eighty Years' War, the Saint James Church was disfigured and used as a storage facility. Want to know more? Construction of the church began in 1831, but was not completed until 1903, when it became the church it is today. It is an iconic, oriented neo-Gothic church with a high crossing tower (height 78 m). The current St. Gummarus Church replaced a church from the early nineteenth century that had become too small. The church is one of the most important later works in the oeuvre of Dr. P.J.H. Cuypers, although the design was modified and carried out by his son Joseph Cuypers (1861 - 1949) and Jan Stuyt (1868 - 1934). The church was severely damaged by war in 1944. Restoration followed in 1949, the tower was rebuilt in 1960. Source: https://www.visitbrabant.com/nl/locaties/2517536205/gummaruskerk-1

On top of the dike is a work of art designed by Hedi Bogaers, entitled Zuudwest. The work of art is a reminder of the storms that can plague Zeeland in the autumn and winter and for many perhaps the most infamous: the one of 1 February 1953. The depicted man and woman symbolise the many times that people have looked anxiously at the water on the dike, but also the tenacity with which man has fought the battle against the water over time. The corn mill 'De Hoop' on the Zuiddijk is special: it is a so-called Zeeland octagon. This mill from 1724 stands on the site of an earlier (standard) mill and looks out over the Krabbenkreek.

In 1971, the Grevelingenmeer with a surface area of 14,000 hectares was created by damming. In the past, the Grevelingen was mainly important for oyster and mussel farming. Now this salty lake is an attractive area for water sports. In addition, nature receives a lot of attention. For the benefit of pleasure craft, the Mosselbank has been located on the plate directly in front of the water sports island since 1990. On the other side is Herkingen on the former island of Goeree-Overflakkee. In your field of vision on the right you can see the Grevelingendam. It is one of the most important connections between Schouwen-Duiveland and the mainland. As part of the Delta Plan, this dam was built between Bruinisse and Goeree-Overflakkee in 1961-1965. The northern channel, the Bocht van Sint Jacob, was closed off by dumping a dam of stones using a cable car. On 1 April 1965, the Grevelingendam was opened to traffic.
