The commune of Assé-le-Bérenger owes its name to the Bérenger family who settled in the parish of Assé in the 12th century. The church dedicated to Saint Thuribe holds a prominent place in the town's memory. Completed in 1882, it replaced two former sanctuaries. It notably houses a pulpit, a wooden Christ, and an oil painting. According to legend, Saint Thuribe came to the commune during a period of severe drought. He caused a spring to appear. Currently, the stream feeds the commune's washhouse before flowing into the Erve River. Two statues have been sculpted in honor of Saint Thuribe.

The church dates from the Romanesque period and has a remarkable Renaissance-style bell tower, classified as a historic monument1. You can admire the 15th century wall paintings in the choir and the nave, as well as the statues and stained glass windows that decorate the church.

The Château du Bois du Maine is a medieval castle which overlooks Mayenne. The castle was built in the 11th century and was involved in the Hundred Years' War, where it was twice occupied by English troops. You can admire the architecture of the castle, which has been modified over the centuries, and enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside. The castle is open to the public and has been classified as a historic monument since 1967.
