Pretty little town, right on Lake Sempach.

The old town of Sempach still has two old city gates, although this is the more striking one.

The construction history of the Lucerne Gate remains largely obscure. However, it can be assumed that the tower-like gate was not part of the original city fortifications. Originally (13th century), the gate was probably constructed from ashlars and approximately 7.5 meters high, upon which the central tower was later built. It was divided by ceilings, accessed via stairs, and had a pent roof. The latter was replaced by a pyramid roof in the first half of the 17th century. Even later, in the late 18th and early 20th centuries, the wall enclosing the tower on the north side was added, along with the facade paintings. There is an adventure trail by the pond. This leads through the middle of the biotope at any time of year. This rich habitat can be experienced intensively with all of the senses.

Sempach still has two city gates. The beautiful Lucerne Gate is one of them. Unfortunately, its history is largely unknown. The lower "solid" third is older. The upper tower was built later.

The Zellmoos Chapel, also known locally as the "Bettnässerchäppeli", was built in 1602. It was probably, like a wayside cross, a guide for the route from Sursee to Lucerne.

The tiny "Zellkapelle" on the country road from Sursee to Lucerne was probably built in 1602 as a signpost. To this day, people still call it the "Bettnässerchäppeli". According to the "SurseerWoche", the reason for the somewhat inglorious name lies in the legend that mothers once brought their bed-wetting children here. Whether it had any effect is questionable, however. The striking thing about the small church is that it has neither doors nor windows. The plague cross, erected in 1952, is intended to protect against plague, hunger and war. During the last wave of plague from 1627 to 1629, almost 400 of the almost 1,000 inhabitants of Sursee fell victim to it.
