Beautiful summit with a wonderful panoramic view... however, the way up is mostly pathless and difficult to find... currently the western descent is very overgrown with tall grass...

Hohwalsch' means the height of Walsch, that is to say of Walscheid. Walscheid was first called 'Walterescett', which means Walter's Forest. This name developed on the border from Walter to Walscheid, because the village was on the border between Belgian Gaul and Upper Germania. [https://www.pays-sarrebourg.com/] From the top of this rock, we have an extensive view, as long as visibility allows.

1月 22, 2024, Le Narion Summit
The summit of Narion requires you to branch off from the main path. But this little detour is doubly worth it. Firstly because it offers an admirable view of the southern Vosges and then because its summit rock is remarkable. If this isn't a perfect spot for a nap or a picnic, I don't know what is.

5月 1, 2023, Le Narion Summit
Le Narion is a peak in the northern Vosges (Vosges) in the French department of Bas-Rhin. Depending on the source, the mountain has an altitude of 998m or often 999m. It is located one kilometer west of the Rocher de Mutzig (1010m), which separates it from the Col du Narion (922m). In the west, 700m away is Le Noll (990m), which is more of a forepeak of Le Narion, as there is a plateau between the two hills and the deepest saddle has a height of 973m - which corresponds to a lumpy height from Le Noll 17m. Le Narion is surrounded by deep forests on all sides, and only its summit area, the plateau towards Le Noll and the uppermost northern slopes have been treeless since December 26, 1999, when Hurricane Lothar felled all the trees here. The summit itself is a 2m high sandstone block that stands on the summit plateau and can be easily climbed with simple climbing (Rock I; T3). In the north, a forest path leads close to the summit, and finally you have to climb without a path through the rubble of rotting trees (T1-2). From the south, a forest aisle leads 400 meters directly and steeply to the summit. Some traces of the path can be seen, but the most beautiful climb to Le Narion is rarely attempted.

3月 3, 2023, Schneeberg Summit
The Schneeberg, as its name suggests, is a beautiful summit to go and see the snow even when it is lacking elsewhere. Many small paths weave through the woods to reach the viewing platform, in addition to those marked. A rocky promontory offers a superb view of the surrounding peaks and the plain of Alsace. At the bottom of it, a hearth, a plate for grilling and a few places to sit. Be careful with the fire all the same, the place is very wooded and the droughts have weakened it a lot. If you do the GR, don't hesitate to make the detour to see the summit. Otherwise, it is very easily accessible from Wangenbourg-Engenthal.

11月 3, 2022, Temple du Donon
The Donon is 1009 meters high and is the highest point of the lower Vosges, where the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine meet. The Romans dedicated this place to the god Mercury. The Donon rock, feared by the first Christians, allegedly later determined the worldview of Victor Hugo. Under Napoleon III. the summit is crowned with a copy of an ancient temple.

The Schneeberg is a sandstone mountain in the northern Vosges in the Bas-Rhin department (Lower Alsace) near the border with the Moselle department in Lorraine (now in the Grand Est region). With a height of 961 meters, it is one of the highest red sandstone mountains in northern Alsace and is only surpassed by the Baerenberg (967 m) in the immediate vicinity. https://www.visit.alsace/en/255000489-ski-area-snow-mountain/

12月 17, 2021, Temple du Donon
A beautiful temple with a rich history. Once home to archaeological finds made on the site, it is now a cult site in the Bruche Valley. The name "Donon" actually comes from "Dun," a Gaulish word meaning "mountain." In short, this site is worth a visit, and the view it offers is sublime. A visit is definitely a must.

A unique hike - regardless of the weather. Sturdy shoes are recommended ;-)

Great view, but in the middle of the beautiful landscape you can also see a memorial of the Holocaust on the horizon - you can recognize the Struthof Natzweiler concentration camp by a pointed pyramid-shaped memorial that stands on the camp. If you turn around, crouch down and look through the narrow clearing, you can see the Rocher de Dabo.
